2026 MWGA Individual Match Play Competition
Set-Up and Game Plan
General Rules
- Match Play is a hole-by-hole game where the lowest net score wins the hole.
- Sign Ups will close on April 26 or when the bracket is full. There is space for 32 players. If we have fewer, some players will receive byes the first round.
- No cost to enter! Cash prizes! Fun! Bragging rights?
Set-Up and Game Plan
- The initial bracket will be in handicap order with the lowest handicaps facing off in the first round and so on through the field.
- First round matches can be played anytime from May 1 through May 31.
- Players will have a month to complete each round. Players who do not win in the first round will go on to compete in the Mulligan Bracket. All players are guaranteed two matches.
- Round 1: play by May 31st
- Round 2, Birdie Bracket (first round winners) and Round 1 Mulligan Bracket: play by June 30
- Round 3 Birdie Bracket and Round 2 Mulligan Bracket: play by July 31
- Round 4 Birdie Bracket and Round 3 Mulligan Bracket: play by August 31
- Final Round Birdie and Mulligan Brackets: play by September 30
- Players who are qualified to play from the Green Tees (age 70 or older, and/or handicap index of 30.0 or greater) may do so, and should inform the Pro Shop of this and play the Green Tees throughout the tournament, unless their handicap improves to the point where they are no longer eligible to play Green Tees.
- Players will be scheduled for their matches as part of the normal shotgun start on League Play Days. Please sign up as usual on Weebly and notify Marcy Salemi [email protected] and the Pro Shop, 704-663-2539, that you are playing a match, and which tees you play from.
- Players have one month to complete each round of match play, or the player who was not able to play must forfeit*. Please make every effort to play, our goal is to have every match scheduled and played. * If forfeiture cannot be agreed, it will be decided by witnessed Rock-Paper-Scissors, best 3 of 5 draws, with that outcome being final!
- All matches can be played any day during a round at Mooresville Golf Club. Let the club house know you are playing a match and if you are playing from the green tees when you make the tee time. Jeremy will make up a score card with your current handicap for the day of the match. A morning phone call reminder to the pro-shop is a good idea for any match not played on a Thursday, to ensure that the card will be ready.
- Handicaps will not exceed 36, and will vary throughout the competition.
General Rules
- If both players agree, they may hit out of turn to speed up play.
- If both players agree, they may move their ball out of divots on the fairway only. Otherwise, play the ball as it lies.
- If both players agree, generally because of weather considerations (hot), a match can consist of fewer than 18 holes, i.e. 9 holes.
- When a player realizes she will not win a hole, it is fine to concede the hole, and this will help speed up play.
- All balls will be played into the cup unless your opponent concedes your putt. Winning or losing a hole will be determined by the net score for that hole. Post your score even if you do not finish the round.
- The end of the match will occur when one player is up by more holes than there are left to play. You may still finish the round.
- In case of a tie at the end of 18, you should continue playing additional holes until one player is ahead by one hole, or if both players agree, you can determine an alternate tie-breaker (putting contest, flip a coin, etc). Note: If you are going to require making the turn from hole 18 to hole 1 and beyond to break a tie, you must first check-in at the club house.
