Ball out of bounds or lost (see description for ball lies
Mooresville Golf Club management has the discretion to change local course rules depending upon the conditions of the course. The local rules may also be changed for competitions, but any changes will be decided and communicated prior to commencing play.

A. Stroke & Distance – You may re-tee the ball as a Provisional – Provisional must be announced.  If ball is found and not out of bounds you must hit that ball.  If the ball is obstructed, you may take an unplayable 1 stroke penalty.

B. Model Local Rule E-5 - To speed play,  When a player’s ball has not been found or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds, the player may proceed as follows rather than proceeding under stroke and distance. For two penalty strokes, the player may take relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area (see Rule 14.3): Two Estimated Reference Points: a. Ball Reference Point: The point where the original ball is estimated to have: • Come to rest on the course, or • Last crossed the edge of the course boundary to go out of bounds. b. Fairway Reference Point: The point of fairway of the hole being played that is nearest to the ball reference point, but is not nearer the hole than the ball reference point. You will incur a  2-stroke penalty.

C. Ball enters high grass area.  If not found it is deemed a lost ball.   Estimate where the ball entered the area.  Imagine a straight line running from the hole through that estimated point.  Move to the edge of the fairway, estimating a spot approximately the same distance and no nearer the hole. Imagine a straight line running through that point.  Relief is 2 club lengths both outside of the imaginary lines and inside of the imaginary lines.  Drop no closer to the hole. You will incur a  2-stroke penalty (See Option B.) All lost balls and out of bounds (OOB) you may re-tee as a provisional from the tee box.  If ball is deemed lost or OOB.  You must play the ball if found and it is not deemed by you to be unplayable. (Rule D)

D. 3 Options 1 shot Penalty:  Two Club lengths from the ball no closer to the hole.   2. Imagine a straight line from the hole through the location of the ball.  Choose a spot on that line behind the ball and drop within one club length on that line no nearer the hole. 3. Stroke and Distance

E One stroke for all options:  Stroke and Distance always allowed or drop the ball within two club lengths of where the ball last crossed the margins of the penalty area.  If Yellow, you may use the back-on-the-line relief procedures Rule 17.1d.

E1. Mooresville local rules allow for dropping the ball on the other side of water or Barranca on holes 9, 10, and 16.  If your ball enters those penalty areas, you may drop on the other side to speed play.  This is optional, as you may replay (9) from last shot, or re-tee (10).
